Construction Skies

This is the view from the other side of my balcony away from the beach. The building is typical Thai construction type stuff and who the hell knows when it will be done.

This is another one of the sky shots I take as normal. When your shooting time is limited you take what you can get. Again, I used my Nikon D5500 and just walked out and took the shoot. I think the building just adds some visual details to it.

I used Aurora to punch some of this up but a lot of the work was done in Photoshop and I just masked in some bits from Aurora and called it done.

Enjoy.

One More Sunset

Shot this the same time as yesterday’s sunset. Bit of a different view from yesterdays as this is in landscape format and pointed at a different section of sky.

While I use my Nikon D810 and my Sony’s for professional stuff now, I use my little Nikon D5500 for a lot of other stuff and with the crop sensor and the 55-200 lens it makes it a great combo that is light and gives you a lot of reach. I could not image how bad the camera would be with the 70-200 2.8 on it. The D810 is bad enough.

Again, all done in Photoshop, nothing via a plugin because they are all broken. May have to do a reinstall which pains me. I know it is likely the Adobe upgrade that broke them.

So just a curves adjustment, lots of dodging and burning and calling it done.

Enjoy.

Balcony View

Taking a bit of a break from the Cambodia stuff. Need to do a series next of the street photos but don’t have the time to sit and do a long edit so bit different post today.

Living in the tropics you get some very nice sunsets. It just so happens my balcony faces the Gulf of Thailand. If I am paying attention I generally will wander out onto my balcony and snap a photo or two.

This particular sunset was after an afternoon storm passed through. You generally get some very nice sunsets after a storm here. Don’t ask me why I don’t know weather at all. I was just happy to have the camera at the ready and snapped a few photos.

Editing this was all done in Photoshop for once. For some reason Photoshop crashes on all my 3rd party plugins except the one I use for portraits. So I actually did this using only Photoshop. To be honest, it wasn’t this vibrant of a sunset. I may have slightly tweaked it. After that, a bit of a dodge and burn and done.

Enjoy.

The Lone Cloud

Was just standing on shore and saw this scene and figured why not take a picture. The single clouds was the dominating object in the image but there was so much else that I just liked the total scene.

I am not 100% sure where I took this image. I know I had my Sigma 17-70 on my Nikon D5500 but that’s about it. I believe I was near the Bali Hai but don’t quote me as I was wandering around the area with my camera and just taking photos.

Editing this I bumped it up with Macphun Intensify and liked the end result. I am starting to put more contrast in via my curves adjustments now and let Intensify bring out features. I didn’t bother to mask anything in. I did spend copious amounts of time removing dust spots from the lens and then burned the cloud down a bit.

Enjoy.

Between The Storms

Shot this in Fort Myers, Florida when I was there. This was after the first storm rolled in and the next one was coming.

Been shooting a lot lately. Just not stuff I can publish here as its for a client. Been great to shoot stuff I’m not used to. So used to landscape photography that I never really messed with flash work. Now I am shooting people in a run and gun style with a flash. Bit of a learning curve but a good one as I know flash photography in theory and have done a bit but now it’s something I am doing almost daily.

Think with photography you either push yourself or you get bored. I love landscape and travel. Thing is now that I do it for some pocket change I have to put the client first and me secondary. This is forcing a challenge for to find the time to shoot my own personal work as now I shoot at night, edit during the day and turn around and repeat. Good because I like it. Bad because personal work goes out the window.

Editing this was mostly my normal workflow. I have been playing with Intensify a lot. I am in the phase where I like to bring out the details and get away with it. The Nikon D5500 is a solid little camera. The resolution is amazing so I can push the files. Hence I did.

Enjoy.

Spot The Carp

Taken at Meadowlark Gardens earlier in the spring when I was there doing the other spring shots.

This image is one of those that I don’t know why I like it but I do. The carp swimming buy just adds that little something to an otherwise boring image. I was just standing there and could see them swimming by so when one came into the frame I fired off a few shots to capture the image.

Editing I am still playing with Intensify. So I ran it through and didn’t bother masking anything in. I did some selective dodging and burning and called it a day.

Enjoy.

Lurking Clouds

Shot this off boat in Estero Bay in Fort Myers, Florida. Always were cool clouds in Fort Myers.

I have been shooting a lot of clouds and I have a series planned when I get around to sorting them out. Right now just doing the I live in Thailand thing which is a lot of fun. There were more than a few nights that went into mornings by the time I got home from the previous night out. Since I’m heading to week 3 living here that has slowed to a crawl and now I am focusing on shooting more stuff. Sadly with the heat or the rain it makes things difficult and I do have work to do from time-to-time which means I have to actually do stuff before just walking out with a camera for a stroll around the neighborhood or even taking a ride on the bike to a temple.

Editing this was the usual Lightroom and Photoshop workflow. I debated on a square crop but like the layering effect with the water, ground, cloud, and sky. Gives you a sense of perspective. I did run it through Intensify just to give the clouds a bit more pop and masked those in.

Enjoy.
