The fall leaf season has been a bit of a bust. With the weather all over the map the leaves can’t decide what to do and with me going to Las Vegas during what is supposed to be the peak for colors I will likely miss it. It hasn’t stopped me from shooting leaves and I really like the standard leaf done in black and white because you get a lot more out of it then just a green shape. You get to see the textures and and the subtleties that are present in the leaf when its shot in color.
I bounce between using SilverFX to do my black and white conversions to just doing them in Lightroom. These were all done in Lightroom where I seem to have a better control over the colors because I know what they were shot in and if I forget I can easily switch back to the color version and look. It also allows me the luxury of editing in color to maximize it before I do the finish in black and white. The final part is done in Photoshop where I mainly mess with the curves to get the desired effect I am looking for.
