The name of this post gives it away. The bridge is the Key Bridge as its known locally but it’s full name is the Francis Scott Key Bridge, the writer of America’s National Anthem. I have issues with the anthem, not from a patriotic stand point but as a song itself. Watching the World Cup all the other countries had peppy sounding anthems; reminiscent of a waltz or something. The Star Spangled Banner is based on a British drinking song. So our melody is based on a tune that would allow Brits who were pissed out of their minds to sing bawdy lyrics somewhat in tune! For further information, Francis Scott Key himself wrote the lyrics while he was on a British Warship that was bombarding Fort McHenry in Baltimore. Irony? Who knows. Take a popular drinking song, find a young nation, add some lyrics and maybe you too can get a bridge named after you. Until then, use the picture as inspiration. Enjoy.
