Scorched Earth

I posted this image on my Instagram feed but it was modified to fit and left in color.  When I had to dump my phone photos to my laptop because I was out of space I took another look at this one and thought I could do better than a minute of editing in Snapseed.  So I converted it to black and white in SilverFX and then brought it into Photoshop for more editing.  There was noise in the sky and I tried every tool known to man to remove it then I remember I could just make a layer mask with the sky smoothed out and then merge it down.  I am very pleased with the results.  I am not sure if its printable because it was shot on an iPhone but I may be able to squeeze a 5×7 print or if I take the time to clean it more to a 8×10.  It just goes to show that regardless of the camera you have on you great images can be made.

  1. Photo really depicts the hot sun and what happens to the earth and trees if lack of water. The summers in Florida are ones that you go from air condition to air condition. We have yet to come into the rainy season. The rainy season gives great downpours in the afternoon to refresh the earth, also causes flooding, but it is drawn in soon after the rain stops, so much water is needed or the grass/weeds/trees that grow in the sandy soil to keep them alive..
